Frequently asked questions

  • In Islam (Janazah), burial normally includes Ghusl (washing), Kafan (shrouding), Janazah prayer, then burial with the head facing Qibla, carried out as soon as reasonably possible.

At Bluebell Muslim Cemetery (how we support it):

    1. Call 24/7 to confirm today’s timings.

    2. Ghusl & Kafan on site (handled with modesty).

    3. Janazah in a covered outdoor area or graveside.

    4. Burial in unconsecrated, Qibla-aligned graves; family backfilling welcome.

  • The steps for a burial in Islam are ritual washing of the body (Ghusl), shrouding (Kafan), congregational funeral prayer (Salat al-Janazah), and burial (Dafan) with the head facing Qibla. Those steps must be performed as soon as possible after death.

    At Bluebell Muslim Cemetery:

    1. Contact us 24/7.

    2. We arrange Ghusl & Kafan on site.

    3. Support Janazah (covered or graveside).

    4. Then burial in unconsecrated, Qibla-aligned graves. Family backfilling welcome; same-day/weekend often possible.

  • Contact the imam immediately. He will guide you step by step on what needs to be done.

  • Many follow shroud-only burial for simplicity and returning to earth. At Bluebell Muslim Cemetery, shroud or coffin are both options.

  • Often within 24–72 hours, depending on paperwork. We can arrange same-day or weekend burials when possible.

  • Traditionally, Muslims are buried in a simple shroud (kafan) without a coffin, returning directly to the earth; however, a coffin may be used where required or chosen.

When a coffin is used (common exceptions):

    1. Local legal/health requirements (e.g., coroner or public-health direction).

    2. Cemetery policy in some locations.

    3. Repatriation/air transport before burial (airlines often require a coffin and sealing).

    4. Family preference after consultation with their imam.

Our policy at Bluebell Muslim Cemetery in Kent:
We accept both shroud-only and coffin burials.

  • Yes, of course. Tears are a natural expression of grief in Islam. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) himself wept when grieving loved ones, while encouraging patience and dignity. For personal religious guidance, please ask your imam.
At Bluebell, our team keeps a calm, respectful environment during Janazah and at the graveside, so families can grieve and pray with privacy and care.

  • Offer condolences and practical help (meals, childcare, transport) and follow your community’s customs, imam can advise.
